Flowers, Flowers and more Flowers

It's been over a month since I posted!  Busy at work and haven't done much on the computer, nothing interested me.  Took photos today of the roses added to those I took the other day of the coleus and petunias.... never grow tired of taking photos of flowers.  Odd that way, I guess.

It seems that the flowers are so beautiful now... a shame that it's September and the season is almost over. The first day of Fall was Friday and it was 47degrees this morning when we got up.  Won't be much longer
to enjoy the blooms.

The Coleus were volunteers from those I'd planted
in the same bed last year,
except the group of 3 that Ginger gave me.

beautiful and varied colorations

and even pretty blooms, which I'd pinched
back until this last month

Next year's crop should be interesting, too.

We found some unusual Petunias in the spring...
had never seen one that's black with yellow stars

Nov 17 note: I saw photo in magazine, petunia is named "Phantom"

Unbelievable how the roses have grown this (their first) summer!

Stopping to smell the roses

Mama Alice's roses.
This bush is from a cutting of a bouquet
I'd make in 2008 from the bush that my mother
planted at my house years ago... many years ago.

It's fun to make various combinations of colors for the bouquets. My dear hubby did these.
I just added the vase of 3 in the back.

The pink roses are unbelievably the prettiest pink I've ever seen!
(I am not a pink person)
The light color rose in the middle of the pink ones is the Peace rose.

Love my bouquets of roses and my little

The Rose Bowl

What do you get when you take Pyrex and Tupperware....

....add some fresh roses, placed just so?

A rose bowl...
thanks to my creative husband!

How Does My Garden Grow? Quite Contrary!

I did a 2 in 1 shot here showing my zinnias.  The one on the left doesn't have any petals.  Both were volunteers that grew from seeds from last year's plants.  I've never seen this mutation before.

Parsley lover

This is the 2nd year for the parsley and it has grown outlandishly, going to seed in early spring.  I discovered these worms which were so striking on the stalks, that I've just left the plant and worms alone to do their own thing.

July 4th fun with family

A couple of weeks before the 4th, I was inspired to have fun with fabric.  I used Pentel Arts Fabric Fun Pastel Dye Sticks.  They look and use like crayons, but are for use on fabric.  This is my first creation:

Then I added a star stamped in gold:

Next, I was itching to make a "grunge bag".  My niece's birthday is July 4th and our family gathers at my brother and sister-in-law's house for a celebration.  I went through my fabric stash and found exactly the fabric I wanted to use.  Here is the grunge bag I made for Carla:
Complete with Fireworks!!
My next vision had to do with the party itself.  I would be with my nieces and nephews who are all grown and have children of their own, which makes me a great aunt.  I tell them I am their great aunt!  So I figure if I'm going to be a great aunt, then I must act like one. Since I only see them once or twice a year during various family gatherings, I like to bring arts & crafts projects and enjoy getting to know them.  I cut basic cotton twill fabric to make simple bags - only completed 2 before the party, but I cut out squares and rectangles of fabric big enough to make the bags and then some smaller sizes just for fun.

Lillie said hers was a poster for her room.

I completed Wesley's and Avery's bag
later at home

I tell you, I had plenty of fun!!!!

fruit of the season

Fresh freestone peaches from Alabama!  Had one in my Cheerios this morning.  So sweet and flavorful. What a way to start the day!

Blog re-name

It struck me this morning that the name of my blog should be and would be the strange grouping of words that I woke up with one morning: high moon dog. The words were clearly spoken to my sleeping/waking mind and they weren't in relationship to a dream. I wondered about them for days, what did they mean, where did they come from, what should I do with them? A story came to me during this wondering and one day maybe I'll write it, but for now it is the name of my blog. Domain registered.

"next blog"

Last night I went searching for blogs from "next blog". There are some pretty interesting blogs out there. Many do a type of photo journal. Some have weekly themes that they discuss which is kinda neat. It is fun so see how people live their lives. Also interesting is that there were no men bloggers that came up in the next blog. True enough I didn't go that far as the internet/computer was way slow.

So, in beginning my blog, I think it is important to develop a system of writing so that I actually do write. It reminds me of when I was in the MSN group, Phany's Farm. I met some different people online and we became friends, chatting about whatever. We'd develop threads of conversation, playing games with one another. There'd be different pages where conversations were carried on to the extreme. One was the Coffee Chat which I think I started. It was just writing what a conversation might be like over a cuppa coffee with a friend: about my day. Anyone could post what was going on in their lives. Then there was My New Job which Genie started. It was simply a made up story about working for one of the members of the group who was kind of a lady's man. Almost every member of the group became a cast member in this storyline.

Now I don't want to tell made up stories. At this time, I'd like to simply write what I'm thinking about. Hopefully my blog will evolve into something that will become interesting to read as well.

Name that Blog

A hurdle to overcome was the title of my blog. This has kept me from creating a blog for I don't know how long. I decided to be like Nike and Just Do It, so my blog name is the same as mine: simple and effective in that it finally started a blog.
